30 Ways to Save on Cosmetics

Collaboration with JENNYHOUSE brand

Until there are free dispensaries in our world that give away vitally-needed makeup kits, we sometimes have to walk by the windows with a sad look and dream that the right lipstick will be in our makeup bag someday after all. Yes, for the beauty, unfortunately, sometimes you have to pay a lot of money. But don’t be discouraged, there are a few tricks that will save you money!

#1

If you bought a lipstick and the color is not right for you, use it as a base for another lipstick, this way you will prolong the persistence of your makeup. You can also «dilute» the color of your lipstick with a lip pencil, balm, or gloss.

#2

Almost out of lip gloss or lipstick? Remove the rest of the product and mix it with a colorless lip balm, then heat the mixture with a hair dryer until you get a smooth liquid mass, stir it and put it away in the fridge for a couple of hours. The balm with your favorite color is ready!

#3

Forgot to buy a new mascara and the old one dried out? No problem! Just put the tube of mascara in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes and you’ll be ready to use.

#4

There is another way to reanimate dried mascara: add a few drops of saline or eye drops to it and mix thoroughly.

#5

Some brands accept empty cans from their cosmetics for recycling and give nice bonuses for doing so. Innisfree, MAC, Lush, and Kiehl’s take this approach. Look for information about such promotions on the brands’ websites or check with the stores.

#6

You can also save a great deal on cleanser for sponges and makeup brushes. First of all, you can wash them with face foam, and secondly, there is an interesting homemade recipe: just mix the same proportion of olive oil and liquid soap and wash your beauty tools with it.

#7

By the way, applying foundation or BB cream is much more advantageous with a brush than with a sponge. The fact is that sponges quickly absorb makeup into themselves, while the brush gives the whole thing to the skin.

#8

Instead of an expensive makeup remover, you can use baby shampoo that doesn’t cause tears.

#9

What’s the difference between expensive and cheap mascaras? They may have different compositions, but the brushes of expensive mascaras are definitely of higher quality. So don’t rush to throw away your used, expensive mascara, but try rinsing out its brush and using it for a new, budget version.

#10

Here’s another idea for how to adapt a brush from used mascara. Rinse the tube and the brush itself thoroughly, and you already have an eyebrow and lash comb!

#11

If your favorite perfume is about to run out, don’t be too sad to splash the last drops on yourself. Pour the rest into an unscented body lotion and your favorite scent will be with you for a long time to come.

#12

In stores, expensive products are usually at eye level, while cheaper counterparts are hidden on the lower shelves. Next time you’re stocking up on cosmetics, look around more closely to see if the benefits are somewhere nearby!

#13

Watch out for promotions and order cosmetics from online stores, as they are much more likely to give you samples and mini versions of products than regular stores.

#14

Before you buy a perfume that you like, ask the seller if they have any samples. It often happens that you don’t like the fragrance after just a few days.

#15

Everyone is probably familiar with this trick, but in case you haven’t heard of it yet! Before you throw away a tube of cream, you can cut it in half and take out some more product.

#16

Have you ever wondered how makeup brushes are different from regular paint brushes? It doesn’t seem to be, except that the former cost a lot more.

#17

Apply some baby powder or baby powder to your lashes before you put mascara on, and then you’ll get much fluffier lashes than usual.

#18

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money for the brand alone, check to see if another brand has a cheaper counterpart before you buy a luxury product. For example, the same shades of eyeshadows, lipsticks, and nail polishes are sure to be found at both exorbitant and reasonable prices.

#19

Pay attention to collections of cosmetics from past seasons — they, like clothes, are often much cheaper.

#20

If you suddenly bought a foundation of too dark shade, you can even rejoice, because it can be diluted with bleaching cream or sanscreen, which means that you will get 2 or 3 times more product. But mix the products only before applying them to your skin, and don’t pour them all into one tube at once, otherwise there’s a chance of miscommunication with the shade again.

#21

Broken eyeshadow or powder can be restored to its original state by adding a little alcohol.

#22

And to prevent this from happening and you don’t have to collect your favorite eyeshadow or powder all over your makeup bag, just put one or more cotton pads in them to help soften the blow.

#23

But actually, broken shadows are good for you, too — you can mix them with colorless nail polish and get a new, truly unique, polish in your collection.

#24

Makeup sponges can also be saved for the long haul if you cut them in half. You can do the same with cotton pads — cut them in two or four pieces.

#25

Never put mascara on the brush with quick up and down motions, because this way a lot of air gets into it and it dries out quickly. To get the right amount of mascara, simply twirl the brush inside the tube.

#26

To fix a broken lipstick, melt the edges of the two pieces with a match or lighter (a few seconds will do) and «glue» them together, then put the lipstick in the fridge to harden it again.

#27

Before you go shopping for a fancy new lipstick, see if you can’t get the right shade from the lipsticks you already have. Just dial in the different shades one by one on a brush and apply to your lips.

#28

If you’ve decided to give up using any products for a while, it’s best to put them in the fridge to keep them safe.

#29

It’s easy to make your own lip scrub: mix equal amounts of brown sugar, honey, and olive oil.

#30

Been wanting eyeliner for a long time, but not sure if you’ll like it? There’s nothing easier — just take a thin brush and use regular mascara as your eyeliner. This method, by the way, is often resorted to by makeup artists when at the right time there is no eyeliner on hand.
